Introduction

Simplistically, gender dysphoria is a subjective feeling of incongruence between the gender implied by one's body and the gender one relates to internally.

In many people, gender dysphoria is mild and does not trouble the person. In a smaller number of people, these feelings may mean that the person has a strong identification as an alternative gender and to a greater or lesser degree may present permanently or intermittently in that gender but does not necessarily wish to modify their physical body. These people are likely to be transgendered

Rarely, the gender dysphoria is much more significant and psychologically disturbing to a degree to cause the person to wish to change their body to be in keeping with how they feel. These people are transsexual.

Transvestites tend to be happy with their body and presented gender but wish to dress temporarily in the opposite gender. Most of these are men wishing to dress as women for short periods of time and this may be associated with a sexual component.

The above is a continuum of natural expression.
